General Motors may be hurting badly, as it's already delayed the future launches of the Chevy Cruze and Chevy Malibu, but it looks like the Pontiac G8 ST will be coming out without delay. The scheduled launch date of the new sports truck is fall 2009. According to Pontiac spokesman Jim Hopson, "There are no efforts to delay the truck. Construction is scheduled to start in July 2009, and the first G8 STs are expected to go on sale here in fall 2009."

The Chevy El Camino-lookalike will come in the classic American package of a V-8 engine with rear drive, even though current industry trends are leaning toward front drive and smaller-displacement engines with forced induction. The G8 ST will be released with a 6.0L V-8, but there have been rumors that a base V-6 engine is still being considered. The most likely V-6 sourced for the G8 ST would be the engine from the base Pontiac G8 sedan, a 261-hp 3.6L engine.

The G8 ST will retail for about the same price as a G8 GT sedan, which starts at just over $32,000. The pricing tops out at about $35,000.
