BMW's new X6 hybrid SUV was recently spotted with virtually no camouflage on, indicating the crossover SUV is nearly ready for release. The X6 ActiveHybrid Concept was first shown to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany, and now BMW is working quickly on getting its hybrid SUV out to the general populace.
The X6 ActiveHybrid is rumored to be available in just one color, and the engine is still undetermined at the moment. The two-mode hybrid system that will be used was co-developed with General Motors and Daimler and will be able to be power the X6 by either the electric motor on its own or in tandem with the X6's engine. The hybrid system will also feature regenerative braking, with the crossover recharging its power during braking. The hybrid version of the X6 is expected to get 20% percent better fuel economy than a regular X6.
Current rumors about the release date for the X6 ActiveHybrid have indicated the crossover SUV will be released as a 2010 model sometime in mid-2009.
