G-OIL motor oils have been tested by the American Petroleum Institute to meet SM rating criteria, the highest rating for gasoline engine oil certification. Testing was done by a nationally recognized independent third party testing facility, and G-OIL is the first and only bio-based motor oil to pass API SM engine tests.

According to the American Chemistry Council, less than 42% of motor oils pass the API SM engine tests, which are designed specifically for crude base oils. That G-OIL passed the tests is even more significant, since G-OIL is made with saturated animal fats rather than a petrochemical base. G-OIL is expected to reduce dependency on foreign oil and provide better performance than conventional motor oils.

The animal fat base that G-OIL uses is American-grown, renewable, and biodegradable. The molecular single-bond carbon chains are similar to common petroleum oils, but have no harsh effects on the environment. It also takes only one barrel of animal fat to produce one barrel of G-OIL versus three barrels of crude oil to make one barrel of motor oil. Additionally, the production process to manufacture G-OIL is more energy-efficient than that of synthetic and crude oil.

While G-OIL has passed the engine tests, it has not formally received API certification. Jeff Marshall, president and CEO of Green Earth Technologies, however, is confident in G-OIL.

"We could not be more excited G-OIL passing the API SM engine test and are confident we will soon be awarded the API certification. G-OIL will change the way the world thinks about motor oil. Passing the SM test prove that G-OIL gives you the best of both worlds - from an environmental and performance perspective."
