The Pontiac Torrent's replacement was recently spotted during testing, and it looks like it's nearly ready to go with an expected release date sometime in 2009 as a 2010 model. Built on GM's revamped Theta platform, the Terrain shares the same chassis as the next-generation Chevy Equinox, which is expected to play a big part in GM's future.
Similar to other GMC vehicles, the new Terrain crossover has a large, blocky front grille. The headlight designs stretches horizontally, compared with the Cadillac BRX's vertical headlights. Also, unlike the BRX crossover, the Terrain has a flat roofline compared with the BRX's sloped roofline. The flat roofline indicates the Terrain will feature more cargo space.
GM unveiled a "Terrain" vehicle at the Kuwait auto show in 2007, but that model was just a GMC-badged Saturn Vue for the overseas markets. The new Terrain crossover will feature unique sheetmetal to separate itself from the other GM crossovers and SUVs. Pricing is expected to start in the low $20,000 range.
