Hot on the heels of announced production cuts from just about every automaker, Detroit News reports today that GM will slash its production volume even further. Manufacturing plants in Orion Township, Oshawa, Ontario, and Lordstown, Ohio, will remain closed for an extra week in January, while a plant in Wentzville, Missouri, will take a week off in December.

Plant workers were told this morning about the production cuts, according to Dave Green, president of UAW Local 1714 in Ohio. When the Ohio plant, which produces the Pontiac G5 and Chevrolet Cobalt, reopens, production will be slowed and 130 workers will be shown the door. Still, Green said that many employees were expecting worse. "It's almost a bit of a relief," Green told DN. "It could have been worse. Don't be sorry for us, go buy a Cobalt."
