Images for what may have been the replacement for the Saab 9-7X SUV have been leaked through patent images, which was first discovered by Trollhattan Saab. The images reveal a SUV that looks to be based off the Subaru Tribeca, following in the footsteps of the Saab 9-2, based off the Subaru WRX. The new SUV displayed obvious Tribeca styling, especially in the front grille and profile.
While the validity of the images of the Saab SUV has been questioned, a new Saab SUV might be a valid entry into the growing crossover SUV market. The patent images have been questioned mainly due to the patent registration filing date of November 4, 2008, coupled with questioning of whether GM should be pursuing a new SUV given the current crisis within the domestic auto industry. Additionally, GM has already delayed the release of the Saab 9-4X SUV, giving even more uncertainty over whether a new Saab SUV would be released in the near future at all.
The Saab 9-7X SUV, which shares its platform with the Chevy Trailblazer and is produced at the Moraine plant in Ohio, will be axed in the near future. The leaked Saab SUV may have gotten the model designation of 9-6X.
