If you are a maritime enthusiast and have $73,000, you can pick up the special North Sails edition of the Volkswagen Touareg luxury SUV, currently available only in Europe. Truck Trend had reported on this special edition SUV in early October as it made its debut at the Paris motor show. The Touareg was designed with the help of renowned sailing outfitter North Sails and draws inspiration from the styling and designs of high-end yachts.
Separating the North Sails edition from other Touareg SUVs is an exclusive pearl white paint job, 19-in. "Zaragoza" alloy wheels with chrome accents, silver roof railing, a sliding glass roof, and special "North Sails" decals. The North Sails edition Touareg also features a plush interior with Nappa leather and a "Chrome & Style" design package. Optional comfort seats are available with the V-8 engine option.
New to the Volkswagen Touareg lineup will be increased fuel efficiency. Thanks to revised gear ratios, more efficient power-steering pumps, and other changes, the Touareg enjoys better fuel economy by 9% for the 2.5L TDI engine with 174 hp and a six-speed manual transmission. The 2.5L now gets around 25.6 mpg, compared with the previous 2.5L, which got a hair over 23 mpg. The 3.0L TDI with 240 hp, also available for the Touareg, gets an improved fuel economy of 25.3 mpg, an improvement of 7%.
