Two of Ford's brand-new vehicles, the Flex crossover SUV and its newly redesigned F-150 pickup truck, have been recognized as the most "accessory-friendly" vehicles for their respective SUV and truck classes. Members of the automotive media selected the winners for this year's SEMA Design Awards, which cite four categories -- car, SUV, truck, and hybrid - for their receptiveness to accessorization. This year's SEMA show featured multiple interpretations of the Flex and F-150.

Flex marketing manager Kate Pearce said she was not all that surprised that the crossover SUV won the SUV segment: "Before the Flex was even launched, customization shops were playing with the images online to show what they could do with the car. That was confirmation of what we already knew, which was that this vehicle would have mass appeal in the customization world."

The F-150 truck also received similar praise in the customization world. Both Motor Trend editor-in-chief Angus MacKenzie and truck expert Mark Williams said the F-150 is an excellent base for customizers looking to build a unique truck for their customer base.

The winners for the car and hybrid categories for the SEMA Design Awards were the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid, respectively.
