BFGoodrich's 2009 Outstanding Trails Program To Recognize Two Off-Road Locations

April 14, 2009
By Benson Kong

The Outstanding Trails Program is dedicated to the preservation and responsible use of off-road trails across the nation and provides aid to support trail conservation efforts. Since the program launch in 2006, BFGoodrich has recognized and assisted numerous trails each year. Due to the current economic climate, the program has selected just two trails this year to receive designation as an "Outstanding Trail." Criteria to receive this designation include trail uniqueness, terrain type, and enthusiast following.

The first OHV trail to be recognized is the 1800-acre Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area in Texas. This privately operated location is situated five miles north of Gilmer. Barnwell Mountain's facilities and trail systems were specifically designed for motorized off-road purposes, and all trails were mapped and rated with proper signage. To recognize this trail, BFGoodrich Tires will show its support at a program event on May 23.

The second trail recognized is the Fordyce Creek Trail, located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The trail started out serving as a wagon trail for the 19th-century mining town of Summit City and was subsequently lost for many years following the closing of the mines. Following the efforts of a group of off-road enthusiasts, the Fordyce Creek Trail was revived. The trail combines High Sierra beauty with five winch hills and four water crossings. The crossings end at Meadow Lake, which lies next to Fordyce Lake. This trail will be recognized on August 8.

BFGoodrich Tires works with Tread Lightly!, United Four Wheel Drive Associations, and hundreds of club members and enthusiasts to support off-road trails from coast to coast. Learn more about the 2008 Outstanding Trails here.

BFGoodrich recently named the Beasley Knob OHV area an Outstanding Trail for 2008, and awarded the trail a grant to continue the area's preservation efforts.
