Production of Porsche Cayenne Diesel Gets Underway. Would You Buy One?

December 29, 2008
By Nate Martinez

Joining the growing diesel bandwagon recently is Porsche with its Cayenne Diesel SUV, which began production this week at the company's Leipzig production plant in Germany.

When it hits European streets next February, the Cayenne Diesel will employ an Audi-sourced 3.0L turbocharged V-6 producing 240-hp and 405 lb-ft. of torque, which is also under the hood of the Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg diesels. The powertrain attains an estimated combined fuel economy of 25 mpg and emits 244 grams per kilometer of CO2.

Pricing for the European model begins at 47,250 euro ($66,455), with plans still underway for its introduction to other markets outside of the EU, which of course could mean the U.S., but don't expect it before 2010 if it indeed comes stateside. We'll keep you posted if and when Porsche brings its Cayenne Diesel our way.
