Catering to the people is something Volkswagen likes to do. Don't take our word for it, just translate the name. But with this latest gussied up Touareg SUV called the Lux Limited edition, the Wolfsburg brand is taking a step in a new direction altogether. Rather than doing as its name suggests, Volkswagen has focused its attention on the more upscale, well-heeled buyer interested in its capable, clean and handsome Touareg SUV.

Built by the automaker's in-house customization division, Volkswagen Individual, the Touareg Lux Limited sports some distinct exterior and interior appointments. A subtle new body colored aerodynamic kit consisting of front and rear aprons, as well as a pair of matching side skirts starts the luxury theme, while 20-in. 'Ayers Rock' wheels complete the look outside. When the well accessorized truck goes on sale next month, buyers can choose from four color options -- black magic pearl effect, campanella white, galapagos gray and biscay blue -- with the latter being new to the lineup.

Stepping inside the cabin, passengers will find the seats, dash and doors lined with supple two-tone leather available in either Latte Macchiato or Anthracite grey. Both primary colors are contrasted by a bright St. Tropez White leather trimming. In addition to the variety of standard features included in regular models, twelve-way adjustable seats up front have been added to the edition for ideal passenger ergonomics and comfort.

Engine options include the Touareg 2's 3.6L V-6 FSI (280-hp/265 lb-ft) and 4.2L V-8 FSI (350-hp/324 lb-ft), as well as the new 3.0L V-6 TDI clean diesel (225-hp/407 lb-ft). As the moniker suggests, the Touareg Lux Limited will be rare -- only 1940 editions will be made this year for U.S. buyers at a yet undisclosed price.
