The 2010 Pontiac G8 ST is off the boards, but naming-contest winner Joseph Warren got to drive away with a new Pontiac regardless. Originally, the "Tame the Name" contest's ultimate prize was to be a new G8 ST, but with the sport truck canned, Warren was instead allowed to choose any Pontiac vehicle with a comparable value to the G8 ST, which was expected to start in the low-$30,000 range.

Warren's ultimate pick was a 2009 Pontiac Torrent GXP crossover SUV, which is powered by a 264-hp 3.6L V-6 engine.

Seen as the modern-day version of the classic Chevy El Camino, the Pontiac G8 ST was originally slated for production later this fall. However, due to the highly publicized economic difficulties that General Motors has faced, the Pontiac brand was placed under review and the G8 ST was forced to go. The G8 ST was to be powered by the 361-hp 6.2L V-8 engine that also powers the G8 GT passenger sedan, and had developed quite a cult following.
