General Motors issued a recall for 276,729 vehicles over potentially faulty shift mechanisms in vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions. While shifting to park, the affected vehicles can remain in-gear. As a result drivers will not be able to restart their vehicle and it may also begin to roll when parked. The culprit is a faulty shift cable adjustment clip.
The recall affects the 2009 model year Buick Enclave; Chevrolet Cobalt, HHR, Malibu and Traverse; GMC Acadia; Pontiac G5 and G6; and the Saturn Aura and Outlook. GM instructs owners to visit their nearest dealership, where mechanics will inspect the shift mechanism and replace the system if required for free.
