Volkswagen is adding the Tiguan compact crossover to its range of R Line offerings. Introduced at the end of 2006 for the Golf, Passat, Touareg, and Touran, the almost entirely cosmetic R Line packages are designed to add styling cues from performance models like the Golf R32 and Jetta R36 and are not offered on American-market models.

The Tiguan R Line starts out as a range-topping Sport model that is then fitted with a new lower front fascia, side skirts, new rear fascia with a diffuser, 19-inch wheels with 225/40R19-size tires, and a spoiler on top of the tailgate. Inside, the Tiguan R Line receives a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel, sports seats, aluminum pedals and interior trim, and two-zone climate control.

Volkswagen will offer the Tiguan R Line with 140-hp and 170-hp diesel engines and a 200-hp gasoline turbo-four in five colors -- candy white, reflex silver, deep black, Biscay blue, and mountain grey. It goes on sale in the U.K. with prices starting at 24,635 British pounds for the models fitted with the 140-hp engine and 26,305 for those with the 200-hp gasoline mill. As with the rest of the R Line range, it's not expected to be offered in the U.S.
