CAMI, the 50-50 joint venture between GM and Suzuki, has built just 4 Suzuki XL7 SUVs in the 4 months and 2 weeks of 2009. With demand still down and available credit still tight, Suzuki has decided to stop production of the XL7 indefinitely. The midsize SUV is the largest Suzuki offering and its only vehicle built in North America, and managed a total production run of 12,407 units last year.
CAMI, located in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada, will produce the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain. The joint venture was started in 1989 and is likely to stay open even if GM files for Chapter 11 reorganization, according to Suzuki CEO Osamu Suzuki.
