Riding on his unique "Deremo chassis," rock racer Rick Deremo cleanly defeated 34 opponents in the Xtreme Rock Racing Western Division season opener on April 11. The opener, which was held at Moab, Utah, was greeted with a morning rain that left surfaces less than ideal. Nonetheless, Deremo persevered in tough conditions to make rock-racing history as the first-ever to win a race in a vehicle utilizing an independent front suspension.

The "Deremo chassis" is built by Randy Rodd of Jimmy's 4x4 in Cortez, Colorado. Powering the winning racer is an LS2 Chevy V-8, the same engine used to power prior-year Corvettes.

The XRRA Western Division series will be completed in Cortez, Colorado, in August. To determine the ultimate winner for the 2009 XRRA season, both winners from the Eastern and Western Division series will compete against one another in the U.S. Finals, which will be held September 19 in Colorado Springs.
