GM announced today that the new 2010 Cadillac SRX crossover will start at just $34,155 when it goes on sale this summer, handily undercutting the base prices of similar offerings from Audi, Lexus, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz.
"We believe the Cadillac SRX offers emotional appeal to a segment previously devoid of much of that," said Steve Shannon, executive director of marketing for Cadillac. "At the same time, it also has very practical new features such as advanced All-Wheel-Drive, and an efficient standard 3.0-liter Direct Injection V6 engine. And with an entry price of $34,155 the new SRX presents an attractive offer to consumers, while taking on the traditional segment leader aggressively."
For that money, the SRX will come equipped with a 265-hp direct-injected 3.0L V-6 making 223 lb-ft and derived from the 3.6L "high feature" V-6 in either a FWD or AWD configuration, the latter of which uses a Haldex all-wheel drive unit. A 300-hp, 295-lb-ft turbocharged 2.8L V-6 will be optional and will no doubt cost more. We recently took a spin in an AWD-equipped SRX with the 3.0L engine and reported that "the second-generation SRX advanced to the head of its class."
In a phone conference with reporters this morning, Cadillac also confirmed that popularly equipped models will likely sticker for $40,130 and that the premium 300-hp engine will only come with AWD and will start in the mid-$40,000 range. Options on the SRX will include 20-in. wheels, a pop-up nav system like the one found in the CTS and a hard drive-based audio system that allows you to pause live radio.
