The Ford Transit Connect is the Blue Oval's first vehicle built in Turkey to be sold in the U.S., and the compact van will be arriving in dealers soon. The Transit Connect has sold more than 600,000 units around the world in 55 countries since 2002, and Ford is hoping the vehicle can become a hit on its own home turf.
The 2010 Ford Transit Connect is being aimed at small businesses that need an economical alternative to a minivan or a full-size van. Four trims will be available, with the base Transit Connect XL Cargo models starting at $21,475. The van will be powered by a 2.0-liter Duratec I-4 with 136 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque, while fuel economy is rated at 22 mpg city/25 highway.
Customizability of the Transit Connect's cargo area is one of its key attributes. The cargo area can either be fitted with more seats, or a variety of cargo management solutions can be installed. There is over 135 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats stowed, and up to 78 cubic feet of space with the rear seats installed.
