Rather than sit idly by and wait for January 1 to roll around, Volvo is striking while the iron is hot. Later this year, it will begin to deliver trucks that meet 2010 diesel emissions standards. Volvo's new engines, which use the latest in SCR technology, will be available for the entire Volvo product line, offering near-zero emissions and improved fuel economy compared with previous years. The new trucks are slated to commence production on a limited basis at Volvo's New River Valley Plant in Dublin, Virginia in early fall, with deliveries to follow a couple weeks later.
Volvo engines available include the D11, D13, and D16. In addition to powering its trucks with its own proprietary engines, Cummins engines also are available. Volvo has reportedly already received orders for approximately 50 trucks equipped with the new 2010-spec engines.
