Who would have seen this one coming? The Kia Soul'ster concept, which bowed at the Detroit auto show in January, has been awarded the 2009 Concept Truck of the Year award. While fans of the Soul'ster have lauded the concept for its economical versatility, others have not been as amused with the car-based FWD trucklet. The Soul'ster is based on the new 2010 Kia Soul, which is powered by either a 1.6- or 2.0-liter I-4 engine. Despite no official confirmation on the Soul'ster's production, the trucklet has reportedly received enough interest to go on sale by the first half of 2010.

The Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards are awarded by a jury of more than two dozen North American automotive journalists. Last year's Concept Truck of the Year was the Land Rover LRX.

Although nothing is official yet, the Kia Soul'ster pickup truck concept could go into production and go on sale by 2010.
Though the Kia Soul hasn't quite hit showroom floors in the U.S. yet, Kia has already brought out a new concept, dubbed the Soul'ster, to illustrate possible future adaptations of the Soul.

Amazing!  Why do we have to wait for foreign manufacturers to figure out what we need in the US?  This is HOT!  GM brings us stupid little SUVs from Isuzu and Suzuki that only a 16 year old girl would drive, and wonders why they don't sell.  If Kia just adds 3 feet to the back of this, it would be a truck that would sell thousands.  Put a diesel in it and you couldn't keep them in stock.  So what the heck are they waiting for?  Oh yea, profit.  The monster trucks sold here won't even fit in my garage anymore, and the smaller ones are so boring, who'd want one?  How about something that gets 30 MPG that I can haul my motorcycle in the back of... like a Montana/Tornado/Opel Corsa Utilty... or even a Holden ute?  Keep the monster trucks for people who need to tow something, or actually use it for WORK... or who can't fit in small trucks.  From what I see going down the freeway, most of us don't need a monster truck to haul one person with nothing in the bed.
