Only 150 owners will have the chance to buy Volkswagen's individually numbered Transporter Limited Edition X models, which have upscale equipment above the already impressive-for-a-cargo-van trim levels on regular Sportline models.

With the addition of the smaller Caddy and Caddy Maxi to the existing Transporter and Transporter kombi, the Sportline lineup is seeing sales expected to be 30% more than 2008. The Sportline Limited Edition X models won't give VW a serious boost in sales, but will likely attract a select type of customer who is willing to pay more than $40,000 for a van powered by a 172-hp 2.5L diesel engine.

For that price, Limited Edition X vans will get chrome and black Dakar alloy wheels, a leather steering wheel, leather gear lever, black and blue leather seats, Sportline floor mats, rear parking sensors, and the choice of silver or blue paint. That's in addition to the regular Sportline trim: 18-in. alloy wheels, chrome grilles and side sills, leather seats, and front and rear spoilers. When you consider the fact that the Limited Edition X models are only 500 (about $820 US) more than regular Sportline models, you could actually think of it as a good deal, though that's a bit of a stretch.
