The immensely popular CR-V is now on sale as a 2010 model and rather than reinvent the wheel, Honda has merely refreshed its compact crossover.

Currently in its third generation, the CR-V employs a 2.4-liter i-VTEC inline-four which, for 2010, benefits from an increased compression ratio, higher-precision fuel injectors, larger intake valves, spark plugs with extended electrodes, friction-reducing piston rings, a more precise timing sensor, and a freer-flowing exhaust. The revisions bump the power total to 180 horsepower, up from the 166 horses of previous years. Torque output remains the same at 161 pound-feet of torque.

Fuel economy has also been positively-impacted by the engine changes. Front-drive models gain an additional 1 city/1 highway mpg, pushing their EPA-estimated ratings to 21 city/28 highway mpg. Four-wheel drive models also gain 1 city/1 highway mpg for a total of 21 city/27 highway mpg.

On the outside, the most visible change has been made to the front end. A new front fascia, front grille, and front bumper design are joined with a freshened hood. The 2010 CR-V's rear end comes with a new rear bumper design and a ten-spoke alloy wheel design replaces the previous seven-spoke design on the EX and EX-L trims. Auto on/off headlights have been added to the EX-L model as well, while Opal Sage Metallic and Polished Metal Metallic have been added to the exterior palette.

Adjustments to the interior were designed to improve functionality. Interior backlighting has been changed from black to blue and the driver and front passenger's center folding armrests have been widened by one inch for increased arm support. New seat fabric textures and amended interior colors help improve interior flow. For increased functionality, a USB port and Bluetooth are both available.

Pricing is expected to start at $22,255 for the LX 2WD, up $300 from last year's model. The topline EX-L 4WD is expected to price around $28,455, up $500. The factory navigation system remains a $2000 option.
