Mahindra continues working toward a late-2009/early-2010 launch date for its compact pickup truck, having changed quite a bit to accommodate American tastes since the first one was shown in the U.S. (Even though there will be a very small number of trucks on sale in 2009, a higher-volume regional rollout will happen in 2010.) This photo is not of U.S.-spec final bodywork. Specifications have the 2.2-liter diesel four rated at 140 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque with a six-speed automatic as standard; acceleration may be leisurely but 30 mpg is easily within reach. With the heavy-duty underpinnings plus standard air-conditioning, power windows/locks, stability control, and CD/MP3 audio with USB aux inputs, curb weights run in the 4200-4500-pound range. Payload ratings range from 2400 to more than 2700 pounds.
