It's taken 35 years, but police have finally found the 1965 Volkswagen bus stolen from its owner more than 30 years ago on July 12, 1974 in Washington.

The VW was headed for the Netherlands when U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents at the Port of L.A. found it. An Arizona restorer was shipping the '65 bus along with other VWs to customers in Europe, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The identity of the original thief is not yet known, but the Arizona restorer is not a suspect.

"Pretty amazing, isn't it?" said customs spokesman Jaime Ruiz. The bus appears to be in immaculate condition, though the owner of the vehicle hasn't been found.

"Allstate paid her $2500 or so to settle the claim," said California Highway Patrol investigator Mike Maleta to the Los Angeles Times. "Now it's worth $25,000...It looks like it's brand new. So Allstate wanted it."

We hope police find the original owner, but in the meantime, enjoy this gallery of Volkswagen buses.
