With Hummer selling just 561 vehicles through the first two months of 2010, a mystery buyer placing an order for 849 H3s and H3Ts makes headlines. GM is not releasing the mystery buyer’s identity, but a rental-car company sits at the top of the potential culprit list.
The large order means the idled Shreveport, Louisiana, plant where the H3/H3T is built will come back online from April 12 to May 13. Production had been stopped in January due to “sufficient inventory in the field,” according to Hummer spokesman Nick Richards.
Hummer’s future is currently in limbo as GM winds down its operations while searching for a last-minute, Saab-esque sale.
