2011 Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid Front Quarter
We've played this game before: following Volkswagen and Porsche's naming strategies for sport-utility vehicles (What is a Tiguan, anyway?). After deciding to name its first SUV after a spicy pepper, Porsche may forge ahead with a nameplate that evokes heat for its second, smaller SUV: Cajun.

According to Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn, the SUV expected to be added to the lineup "might be named Cajun." It is likely to be based on the same platform that underpins the Audi Q5. As we've previously reported, a Q5-sized sport-ute will give Porsche a fifth model and help increase global sales.

Our spies caught a prototype lapping the Nürburgring wearing distinctively Cayenne-like skin, scaled down to the size of a Q5. According to Automotive News, the Cajun will likely be introduced no earlier than late 2014, and by Winterkorn's account the vehicle has been confirmed for production.

With plans to double its sales to 150,000 in the near term, is it the right move for Porsche to add a second SUV in its lineup in addition to the Panamera sedan?
