General Motors has become the first automaker to cross the seven-digit sales barrier in China this week. December 15 marked the one millionth sale of Shanghai GM.

Making a Buick the one millionth vehicle is fitting for Shanghai GM, which has sold about 500,000 Buicks, 490,000 Chevrolets, and 16,000 Cadillacs this year. Yes, that's right, more Buicks than Chevys. In the U.S., Chevrolet has sold more than 10 times the volume of Buick through November, though that ratio might change as Buick adds the Verano compact car, crossover, and other lineup expansions. Twelve years ago, the first Shanghai GM vehicle rolled off the assembly line.

GM notes that the Chevrolet brand placed first in a J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2010 China Customer Service Index study. In that same study, Honda was after Chevrolet and Buick was in ninth place, still well above the average. China is also the home of Buick's latest GL8 minivan, which is available this month.
