A Honda factory in Mexico's Jalisco state that produces the CR-V compact crossover may suspend up to 1100 employees, as component inventories run low following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, local newspaper Reforma reported, citing a company spokesman. The figure represents nearly half the plant's workforce.
Some airports and ports are still closed and that is affecting inventories, according to a Honda Mexico spokesman.
The country imports about $2.5 billion in Japanese auto parts each year, representing around 8 percent of its total imports, according to the report.
