Like General Motors' direct-injection 3.6-liter V-6? You'll be happy to know the automaker is expanding its use of the smooth six-cylinder engine for the 2012 model year.
First up, Cadillac announced that the 2012 SRX crossover will arrive in dealerships later this year with the 3.6-liter V-6 as its sole engine offering, replacing the model's current 3.0-liter DI V-6. Final figures for the SRX-tuned V-6 have yet to be finalized, but we're told the engine will produce "at least" 300 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The outgoing 3.0-liter engine made 265 horsepower and 223 pound-feet, which made for competent but hardly spirited performance.
The Caddy's engine swap doesn't come as a big surprise, having been predicted earlier this year. Cadillac also dropped the unloved turbocharged 2.8-liter V-6 engine from the SRX spec sheet in January (it had a paltry take rate of less than 10 percent). The old V-6 will live on in some foreign markets, like China, where SRX buyers will have a choice of both the 3.0-liter and 3.6-liter engines.
Fuel-economy figures for either the 2012 SRX haven't yet been determined, but Cadillac tells us the 2012 SRX should offer numbers comparable to the 2011 SRX's of 18/25 mpg (city/highway) rating. Pricing for the 2012 SRX will be announced closer to the on-sale date, which is later this summer.
