The 2011 Cadillac SRX is being recalled because the rear curtain airbag may not always deploy in an accident. According to Cadillac and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the SRX's airbag control module could inadvertently disable the right-hand curtain airbag, increasing the risk of injury to passengers in the right-rear seat.

The Problem: If the Cadillac’s airbag computer determines that nobody is seated in the front passenger seat, it disables the right-hand roof-rail airbag. That means that if a passenger were sitting in the right-rear seat, but the front-passenger seat was empty, the airbag would fail to deploy. NHTSA warns this could cause an increased risk of injuries to rear-seat passengers. The airbag would still deploy in a roll-over accident.

The Fix: Cadillac will recall all affected vehicles and reprogram the airbag sensing and diagnostic computer module.
