Hummer enjoyed its time in the spotlight in the 90s and early 2000s, but soon gained the reputation as an icon of wasteful, over-the-top consumerism. Well, a couple of architects have come up with an idea for earth-friendly re-purposing of these off-roading beasts that's sure to make the composting and solar-array crowd happy. Behold the HummerHaus, a housing concept literally made from recycled Hummer H2s.

Architectural duo Craig Hodgetts and HsinMing Fung have embraced the Hummer and used it for what it's worth: tough sheetmetal. The two architects, founders of the appropriately named design agency, HPlusF, have created a design concept in which eight Hummer H2 body shells serve as walls around a steel frame.

Hummer Home Plan Details
Perfectly fit for a comfortable living space, the sketches reveal the Hummer home will have all the essentials a single family would need: a kitchen, living room, bathroom, and master bedroom. But this is just the standard of the HummerHaus line. HPlusF has also designed a bachelor pad, an office and a community center made entirely of Hummers.

In a society obsessed with recycling materials, would this be an eco-friendly re-use of the reviled icons of excessive consumption?
