Carried by its strong June sales momentum, Chrysler Group saw an increase of 20 percent in July compared to the same month last year, selling 93,310 vehicles total. So far, Chrysler Group has sold 751,958 vehicles in 2011, a 21-percent year-to-date increase over last year. Chrysler's best-selling brand for the month was Jeep, at 38,691 units sold.
Chrysler: 15,427 units sold, up 5 percent
The Chrysler brand shook off last month's 8-percent loss and saw a small gain of 5 percent over July of last year. Though the biggest seller for the month was a car - the Chrysler 200, at 6509 units sold - coming in at a very close second was the Town & Country with 6503 units sold. Despite the relatively high volume, the popular minivan was down 20 percent compared to July 2010.
Jeep: 38,691 units sold, up 46 percent
The Jeep brand once again saw a stellar sales month, as all models posted month-over-month gains. The venerable Wrangler was Jeep's strongest seller, moving 14,355 units for a gain of 43 percent over the same period last month. Second in sales volume was the new Grand Cherokee, which sold 9499 units, an increase of 76 percent over July 2010. The recently face-lifted Compass was the most improved for July, increasing sales by 240 percent over the same period last year at 4430 units sold.
Dodge: 33,653 units sold, up 9 percent
Now that Dodge has lost its trucks to the newly formed Ram brand, sales volume isn't what it used to be, but still high enough to make Dodge the number two selling brand under the Chrysler umbrella. The Caravan minivan was Dodge's sale volume leader, a 4180 units sold, despite a 16-percent drop compared to July of last year. The Dodge Journey was also strong at 4180 units sold, but apparently not as strong as it was in July 2010, as it was down 9 percent. The new Durango continued its success from last month, selling 5364 units. The slow-selling Nitro was the weakest volume performer at 1826 units sold.
Ram Brand: 21,217 units sold
The Ram truck brand nearly matched its sales performance of July 2010, when it sold 21,239 units. The Ram pickup is by far the sales leader, with 20,311 units sold, a gain of 1 percent over the same period last year. The Dakota pickup lost some ground, selling 906 units for a decrease of 17 percent from July of last year.
