There comes a time when every motorcyclist needs a good truck. Whether it's because of inclement weather, or because of the prospect of having their spine shaken for hours on end isn't the most appealing, trucks just make sense for motorcyclists. Ford and Harley-Davidson realized that back in 1999, and have been producing such a truck ever since. The two companies today announced that the legacy will continue with the 2012 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150.

The 2012 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 is the latest in a line of joint Ford-Harley-Davidson F-Series trucks dating back to 1999. Ford and Harley-Davidson's latest effort comes standard with Ford's 6.2-liter 411-hp V-8, producing 434 lb-ft of torque. All 2012 Harley-Davidson edition F-150s will also get machined-aluminum 22-inch wheels, a side graphic that mimics those found on Harley gas tanks, and two Harley-Davidson derived exterior colors: White Platinum Tri-Coat, and the obligatory Tuxedo Black.

The interior of the 2012 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 provides all the comfort and style that dentists - err, bikers, need while they're saving their spines and towing their bikes to Sturgis, Hollister, or Daytona Beach. Interior panels of the joint Ford-Harley effort are covered in Tuxedo Black paint, while the lid of the center console and the upper half of both the steering wheel and seats are decked out in snake skin leather. The interior also features Harley-Davidson badges produced by the same company that makes badges on Harley bikes, and a limited edition serial number plate with the trucks VIN number and Harley-Davidson's logo on the center console.

This is the tenth Harley-Davidson edition F-150 since 1999, and it also joins the six F-250 and F-350 Super Duty Harley-Davidson editions that have been produced, and the one F-450 Harley-Davidson edition. With history like that, we're sure that the 2012 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 won't be the last.

Unfortunately, Ford apparently only offers the Harley edition in the four-door crewcab.  I'd rather have the regular/extended cab options on these.  Here in Las Vegas, they've found regular cabs cool better.  The A/C doesn't have to cool the often unused portion of the crewcabs.  Too bad Ford doesn't offer choice.
