GM August Crossover Sales Up 18 Percent, Trucks Gain 17 Percent

Sales of crossovers were up 17 percent, and truck sales rose 18 percent compared to August 2010.

There was even more good news for General Motors, as August 2011 sales were up 18 percent year-over-year, ending the month at 218,479 total sales. While cars like the Chevrolet Cruze once again led the charge with huge sales success, all of GM's brands saw year-over-year volume increases. Sales of crossovers were up 17 percent, and truck sales rose 18 percent compared to August 2010.

Chevrolet - 152,779 sales, up 15.8 percent

Chevrolet products with impressive improvements include the Suburban, up 60.3 percent year-over-year to 4938 monthly sales; the Equinox crossover, which climbed 57.6 percent versus August 2010 to 16,606 sales; and the Traverse, which rose 43.7 percent to 11,281 sales.

Gmc Sierra All Terrain Hd Concept Front Three Quarters View
GMC - 36,471 sales, up 40.3 percent

Strong sales of the Sierra pickups, along with the Terrain and Acadia crossovers, helped buoy GMC to a monthly sales figure that was 40.3 percent higher than in August 2010. Terrain sales were up an impressive 88 percent year-over-year, for 7875 total sales, while the Acadia saw sales rise 53.7 percent to a total of 6491. More surprisingly, sales of the aging GMC Canyon compact pickup rose 140.8 percent year-over-year, finishing August at 1606 sales.

2011 Buick Enclave Front View
Buick - 16,021 sales, up 12.1 percent

The brand's products buoyed it to a decent sales gain, marking the 23rd consecutive month in which Buick sales increased year-over-year. The Enclave crossover rose 17.2 percent versus August 2010, for a total of 5387 sales.

2012 Cadillac SRX Front
Cadillac - 13,208 sales, up 4.1 percent

Cadillac saw a slight sales gain for August compared to a year prior. Sales of the SRX crossover grew 7 percent to 4627 total.The overall sales gain was achieved despite steps takento reduce fleet sales by 51 percent, something which impacted the brand's sales volumes last month.
