The Infiniti QX56 is just one of the many players in the luxury SUV segment. Aside from its luxurious confines -- complete with semi-aniline leather, genuine wood trim, and Bose sound system -- the QX56 features a silky strong 5.6-liter V-8 engine rated at 400 hp.
Students hope to use that engine as the powerplant for a luxury motor boat that they will plan, design, and build. Infiniti provided a donor QX56 and provided a team of engineers to help extract the monster V-8 from the engine. The removal was performed by automotive technical training program students.
The next step is to build the boat. Students from the Tennessee Technical Center in Nashville and Nashville's State Community College are tasked with the project. Infiniti engineers will be on hand to assist with the project.
The boat is scheduled to debut next year. Infiniti will post teasers and updates of the boat on its Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/infiniti) and Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/infinitinews).
