Not to be overshadowed by the debut of the new Ford Escape at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Chevrolet is freshening up the Equinox with new content for 2012. Among the new kit the Equinox is receiving is MyLink software, and GM's Crash-Avoidance System, which just debuted on the 2012 GMC Terrain.

Chevrolet's MyLink software will integrate seamlessly into the Equinox's entertainment and OnStar system. MyLink will allow Equinox drivers to stream music from their smart phones, or from internet radio sites like Pandora and Stitcher through the vehicle's Bluetooth system. MyLink also comes with a seven-inch hi-res touch screen display.

Also newly available on the 2012 Equinox LTZ trim level is GM's Crash-Avoidance system. A $295 option, the crash avoidance system uses a digital camera mounted on the windshield to look for other vehicles and lane markings. The Crash-Avoidance System will warn the driver both audibly and visually at speeds over 25 mph if the Equinox is in danger of a crash, even going as far as pre-charging the brakes for maximum stopping power. Also included in the Crash-Avoidance System is lane departure warning. Functional only above 35 mph, lane departure warning uses an instrument panel icon and warning beeps to help keep an otherwise distracted driver in their lane.

The 2012 Equinox is NOT shipping with MYLINK, despite everything that has been written. A quick Google search confirms this is a widespread issue. GM is running a bait and switch con.
