Land Rover is looking at the grand scheme of things when it comes to broadening the Range Rover sub-brand, as the automaker has reportedly been tinkering with the idea of adding a lengthier Evoque crossover to the lineup.
According to Autocar, the Grand Evoque would slot in-between the volume-leading Range Rover Sport and the Evoque, and would roughly measure a foot longer than the current Evoque with a total length of about 183.7 inches. Although it will sit on the same architecture as the Evoque, the Grand Evoque would have distinctive visual and functional characteristics of its own, with rumors suggesting it may come equipped with a third row. Extra rear overhang and bigger cargo area would also be a result of the extra length.
Mechanically, a high-output 1.8-liter turbo four may find its way under the hood, possibly being a part of a new range of four-cylinder engines produced at a the new Jaguar Land Rover plant in the U.K. A hybrid drivetrain of some sort may also be a possibility. Lightweight materials would be used in the crossover’s construction, helping improve fuel efficiency.
Autocar says the Grand Evoque will likely be launched in 2015 with a starting price of 35,000 British Pounds, which is roughly $54,576 using today’s rates. It will be produced alongside the Evoque.
