Well-known off-road racer and motorsports personality Robby Gordon is reviving the proud tradition of stadium racing started by off-road legend Mickey Thompson with the Robby Gordon Stadium Super Truck Series. The series is envisioned to be accessible and affordable for drivers, and exciting for fans.
The series kickoff is planned for April 2013 in Southern California with events in Los Angeles and San Diego followed by a 10-event schedule across the country with the possibility of international events. Each events will have two days of activities on Friday and Saturday. Qualifying will take place on Friday and the Stadium Super Truck heats and finals on Saturday along with fan-centered events such as a fan expo, tailgating, side-by-side ATV heats, and Bigfoot heats and finals.
The main truck class will feature 600-hp V-8-powered spec trucks with the same engine and chassis for all drivers. Teams will be allowed to adjust shocks, springs, tire pressure steering, and seating position, but the trucks will otherwise be identical. To level the playing field even more, drivers will draw for truck numbers at the beginning of each race, meaning that drivers won't always be in the same. To cut costs, each team is allowed two mechanics. Trucks will run on DOT-approved street-legal tires.
Although the cost-of-entry is modest, the potential pay-out could pay off handsomely for drivers. The event winner receiving $40,000, second place getting $15,000, and third place getting $3000. The season's point champion will receive $500,000.
