The smaller of Acura's two SUVs, the RDX, got an extreme makeover for the 2013 model year, ditching its angular, aggressive styling and turbocharged four-cylinder power for more conservative mini-MDX styling and V-6 power. Now it's big brother's turn, and in an ironic twist, the new MDX shows some likeness to the new RDX, which itself was heavily influenced by the MDX.

The most noticeable change to the front involves LED headlights, as evidenced by the multiple individual reflectors and diodes in the headlamps. This light design was also seen in the RLX sedan concept shown with its "Jewel Eye" headlights.

Like the RLX, the MDX is expected to get Acura's next-generation Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, possibly supplemented by a hybrid drivetrain. The RLX concept featured a seven-speed dual clutch transmission paired with a new direct-injected 3.5-liter V-6, which combined with the hybrid motor, produces a claimed 370 hp. While there's a good chance the new MDX will get a version of this engine, possibly with hybrid assist, it's unknown whether it will also get the dual-clutch transmission.

Around back, the new MDX shows some influence from the ILX compact sedan in the taillight design, as well as a touch of Audi Q7, as well. While it's hard to tell from the photos whether the 2014 MDX has grown much dimensionally, the current model is on the shorter side of the seven-passenger crossover class, being more than 15 inches shorter than the Lincoln MKT, 8 inches shorter than the Mazda CX-9, and about 5 inches shorter than the Infiniti JX35.

The Acura MDX might be getting a southern drawl: we hear that Honda and Acura will move production of the MDX to Alabama and the CR-V to Canada as the dollar falls in value against the yen.

Acura just gave its RDX SUV an update, which means the luxury brand can switch gears and spend some time on the bigger MDX, which happens to be its best-selling vehicle.

For the 2013 model year, the Buick Enclave is getting a price hike. The 2013 Enclave's starting price of $39,270 is about $2000 more than the price of last year's model but still below other premium seven-passenger SUVs like the Infiniti JX35 and Acura MDX.
