The 2012 Honda Crosstour four-cylinder officially went on sale today, and although sales for the crossover dropped 37.9 percent in 2011 versus 2010, perhaps the cheaper and more fuel-efficient four-cylinder model will help boost sales.
Pricing for the Crosstour EX starts at $28,465 (including $810 destination), which is about $2600 less than the comparable six-cylinder model. Bump it up to the EX-L model that comes with leather seats, and the price jumps to $31,515. Add navigation into the mix, and the Crosstour tops out at $33,615, which is about $2280 less than its V-6 counterpart.
Under the hood is a 2.4-liter engine, which puts out 192 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, down considerably compared to the 271 hp and 254 lb-ft on tap from the Crosstour's 3.5-liter V-6 engine. The benefit, however, is improved fuel economy: the four-cylinder version returns 21mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, compared to 18/27 mpg for the front-wheel-drive V-6 model. Both engines are mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.
Standard features on the four-cylinder Crosstour include an automatic dimming rearview mirror, rearview backup camera (except navi-equipped models), automatic headlights, Bluetooth, and USB port.
