The Detroit News is reporting that General Motors North America President Mark Reuss said that the midsize pickup headed for the U.S. market within the next year and a half may not carry on the Colorado name in the U.S.
The new global Colorado launched at the 2011 Bangkok Motor Show, destined primarily for Asian, Middle Eastern and other global markets. It carried the Colorado name when it launched, and the initial expectation was that it would carry on the name when the new model made its way to the U.S. However, this latest report casts some shadow of a doubt on that certainty.
Considering the current U.S. model’s lackluster sales, it's possible that a heritage name may be revived for the new midsize truck. Some possibilities are the revival of the S-10 label, and there a multitude of other possibilities from Chevy's past, including Apache, Cameo, and Cheyenne. Some less-likely candidates include Thriftmaster and Loadmaster.
If Chevy is dropping the Colorado name for its new midsize pickup, what would your vote be for the new name?
