BMW is issuing a recall for 2864 2011 and 2012 models powered by V-8 or V-12 engines, including some 2012 X5 and X6 crossover models for a faulty circuit board for the auxiliary electric water pump. This could lead to a smoldering of the water pump and, ultimately, an engine bay or vehicle fire.
BMW will notify owners of affected vehicles and replace the auxiliary water pump at no charge. Owners can contact BMW at 800-525-7417, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hotline at 888-327-4236
