You wouldn't expect a driver who has competed in the Baja 1000 -- one of the most raw, rugged, petrol-fueled events in the world -- would pilot a nearly stock full-electric car up a mountain, but that's just what Beccy Gordon, sister of off-road racing celebrity Robby Gordon, is planning for the Pike's Peak International Hill Climb in July.

Gordon will be joined by two-time Paris-Dakar Rally champion Hiroshi Masuoka in a special race-prepped i-MiEV prototype. Mitsubishi engineers and research and development staff will be on-hand at the event to analyze data from the cars as part of the ongoing R&D efforts into future electric, plug-in and hybrid models the company has in development.

In addition to Mitsubishi's entries, current reigning Pike's Peak champ Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima will be piloting an electric vehicle, as well as Toyota entering the competition with its TMG EV P001 electric race car that set last year's Nurburgring record.
