The latest crop of recalls covers a wide range of trucks and SUVs, and a whole range of issues. Most recalls are small, only involving several hundred vehicles. Although recalls issued on the F-150 and Expedition, and the now-discontinued Windstar minivan involve several thousand units. Read below for more details.

2011-2012 Ford F-150, Expedition, Lincoln Navigator

The Problem: Due to a faulty transmission range sensor (TRS), when reverse gear is selected, the "R" may not illuminate on the dashboard, and the back-up lights may not illuminate, increasing the risk of a crash or pedestrian injury.

The Fix: Ford will notify owners affected by the recall, and dealers will inspect and replace the TRS unit as needed. The recall is expected to begin on or around June 25, 2012. Owners can contact Ford at 866-436-7332, or call the NHTSA hotline at 888-327-4236.

2012 Ram 1500

The Problem: Some 2012 Ram 1500 trucks are equipped with an incorrect size spare tire. A wrong-sized spare could affect the function of the electronic stability control system, increasing the potential risk of a crash.

1998-2003 Ford Windstar

The Problem: Windstar minivans sold in Puerto Rico and Virginia could run the risk of a cracked rear axle due to increased torsional loading and corrosion. A fractured axle could lead to loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, Ford is issuing a recall on 23,000 1999-2003 Windstars registered in Virginia for a faulty front lower control arm that could fracture due to corrosion.

The Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and install a reinforcement bracket on the rear axle, or replace the rear axle as needed. The recall is expected to begin on May 21, 2012. Owners can call Ford at 866-436-7332, or call the NHTSA hotline at 888-327-4236.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 9400 Windstar minivans manufactured between September 1, 1997 and July 3, 2003 sold in Puerto Rico, 27,000 units in Virginia for rear axle, 23,000 for front control arm.

2012 Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country

The Problem: The right-side liftgate pinch sensor does not function properly, requiring increased force to prevent the liftgate from closing.
