Icon, Inc., the company known for rebuilding classic 4x4 models to be better, stronger, more powerful, and more capable than their ancestors could ever have imagined being, introduces the latest version of its FJ40, the Icon FJ40 New School Baja.

The custom rebuilt 4x4 features a two-tone powder-coated aluminum body, polyurea-coated underbody and interior floor, chrome-moly rollcage, and premium canvas soft top. The Icon FJ may look old-school, but the hardware is thoroughly modern, including four-wheel disc brakes with six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, Dynatrac 44 front, and 60-series rear axles with Eibach springs and Fox Racing coilover shocks.

On the inside, the Icon FJ40 Baja features all the modern amenities one could want in a contemporary 4x4, including an Alpine audio system with iPod link, a portable Garmin navigation unit, premium Chilewich upholstery textiles, and full heating and air-conditioning.

The drivetrain features a 5.7-liter GM LS V-8 making a claimed 420 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, with a truck-style long-runner intake for improved torque characteristics, and a GM 4L65E four-speed automatic transmission.

Even the original-looking round headlamps are thoroughly modern LED units, with LED rear auxiliary lighting as well. The front bumper features a 9.5-series Warn winch accompanied by a fully stocked Viking recovery gear bag.
