Since 1999, Denali has designated the top-of-the-line trim for GMC models. Once reserved only for the Yukon and Yukon XL fullsize SUV models, you can now get almost any GMC model in Denali trim. For the 2013 model year, one more nameplate to is added to the Denali lineup -- the Terrain crossover. The announcement of the trim level itself came two months ago at the New York Auto Show, but today we get word of pricing for the GMC's entry-premium SUV, which will run at least $35,350.

The 2013 GMC Terrain Denali that you get for that base price is the four-cylinder, front-wheel drive model. Optional all-wheel drive adds another $1750 to the bottom line, while opting for the new 301-hp 3.6-liter V-6 adds another $1500 to the total. To break it down, an AWD 4-cylinder goes for $37,100, a FWD V-6 goes for $36,850, and an AWD V-6 rings the register at $38,600 before the addition of other options. Selecting the V-6 engine also gets you a bump in wheel size from 18 to 19 inches. Many of the same features on the Denali can also be had on lower-trim models -- exclusive to the Denali are eight-way power front passenger seats, and dual-flow front shocks.

Although that sum may seem steep at first glance, we were able to configure a 2013 Ford Escape to more than $37,000. The slightly larger Edge Sport starts at $37,435 and the Cadillac SRX, which comes standard with V-6 power, starts at $36,860 for a front-wheel drive model.

With that in mind, do you think GMC being too ambitious with its pricing strategy for the Terrain Denali or is it priced appropriately for its market positioning?
