Ford is issuing a recall of 8266 2013 Ford Escape crossovers for improperly installed carpet padding around the left side of the center console. If the padding is in the wrong position, it could potentially cause drivers to hit the side of the brake pedal with their foot when moving it from the accelerator to the brake pedal, increasing stopping distances and the potential risk of a crash.

The Problem: Improperly positioned carpet padding could force the driver's foot to contact the side of the brake pedal when transferring from the throttle pedal to the brake. The compromised pedal control function could potentially increase stopping distances and the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Ford will contact owners affected by the recall, and remove and replace the faulty carpet padding and left-side console trim panel. Owners can contact Ford at 866/436-7332, recall campaign #12S34, or call NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at: 888/327-4236.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 8266 2013 Ford Escape models built from March 8, 2012 through June 7, 2012.
