The 2013 Ford Explorer, along with the 2013 Taurus and Lincoln MKS, has just been bestowed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's highest crash-test rating of five stars.

In NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), the Explorer earned an overall vehicle score of five stars. The score factors in frontal and side-impact testing with the vehicle's ability to resist rolling over. The three cars are the only Ford and Lincoln products to achieve the top rating at this point in time; the Explorer is the only crossover to achieve the rating.
