Having been all but confirmed by Jeep design chief Mark Allen at our recent Jeep Experience trip in Colorado, the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is now confirmed as an official production model. Jeep also announced an intermediate trim level of the Wrangler that brings some of the capability and hardware from the topline Wrangler Rubicon to a new model in the lineup, named appropriately enough, the Wrangler Moab.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk
The Trailhawk adds just a hint of ruggedness to the elegant and refined Grand Cherokee. Imagine a five o'clock shadow with a tuxedo look, and you've got the basic idea. First introduced as a concept at the 2012 Easter Jeep Safari, the production Trailhawk package is available on V-6 and V-8 Grand Cherokee models, and consists of 18-inch Goodyear Silent Armor all-terrain tires, steel rock rails, Quadra-lift air suspension giving almost 11 inches of ground clearance, and an electronic limited-slip rear differential allowing the transfer of up to 100 percent of torque to one rear wheel under extreme conditions.
The Trailhawk can be spotted by its red Trailhawk and Trail Rated badging, red tow hooks, black-surround headlights, gray grille surround, and black hood decal. Special interior touches include black leather and suede seats with red accent stitching and Mopar "slush" floormats. Available colors are Bright White, Brilliant Black, Mineral Gray, Maximum Steel, and Deep Cherry Red.
Jeep Wrangler Moab
Considering how often Jeep and Jeep enthusiasts frequent this southeastern Utah locale, it was just a question of time before a special-edition model got the Moab name. Sitting just beneath the rugged Rubicon in the Wrangler family hierarchy, the Moab builds off the Sahara trim by adding 17-inch gloss-black wheels, 17-inch Goodyear Silent Armor tires, a standard Trac-Lock rear differential with optional electronic locking, winch-ready steel bumpers, and rock rails.
Unique touches to the exterior of the Moab include a power dome hood, black fuel-filler door, taillight guards, a matte-black Jeep badge, and Moab hood decals. The interior is highlighted by black or saddle leather seating, Moab-embossed grab handle, and Iron Gray interior accent trim. The Moab package is available on two-door Wrangler and four-door Wrangler Unlimited models, and is offered in Crush, Dozer, Rock Lobster, Gecko, Black, and Bright White exterior colors.
