The team in Auburn Hills should cover their eyes, because the champagne (or prosecco) corks must by flying after Ram and Jeep's domination of the Texas Auto Writer's Association Texas Truck Rodeo awards, in which the 2013 Ram 1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee took the titles of "Truck of Texas" and "SUV of Texas," respectively, the latter winning the award for the third consecutive year. In addition, Ram and Jeep vehicles took six secondary category awards.

The Lone Star State is the largest U.S. market for light trucks and SUVs, so although the judging and competition is regional in nature, the TAWA awards are considered influential and prestigious.

In addition to taking the title of Truck of Texas, the 2013 Ram 1500 also won the categories of full-size pickup truck, the Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn won full-size luxury pickup truck, and Jeep took three of the five SUV sub-categories with the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee winning the full-size sport utility vehicle category, the Grand Cherokee Overland Summit edition winning full-size luxury sport utility vehicle, and the 2013 Jeep Wrangler taking the prize for the mid-size sport utility vehicle category.
